Breeding of “Down” goats and manufacture of a range of products from their down is a tradition for the inhabitants of northern regions of Russia. The well-known Orenburg shawls immediately come to mind.
Down of this elite class of goats, bred up in the Volgograd region of Russia, is considered the most famous and stylish. The uniqueness of this particular down is that the goats, whose wool is used for manufacture of Troitsk yarn “TENDER”, cannot be crossbred with other goats and thus the population of these animals is not all that great.
Year round, goats graze on ecologically pure pastures and in winter when the wool reaches its maximum length, goats are combed by hand. You can get about 2.2 lb of down from a single goat. It is not very much, of course. Numerous attempts by Russian and Western scientists to breed these goats in countries with similar climate so far has been unsuccessful and the unique properties of down are lost in every attempt to find goats a new home.
Properties of goat down have been recognized for centuries. The yarn from it is very strong, soft (softer than usual sheep wool) and possesses obvious healing abilities.
Care for articles of clothing made with goat down is not very different than care for the clothing made with ordinary wool. Dry clean or hand wash in lukewarm water with special shampoo for wool. Lay flat to dry, do not tumble.
Made in Russia.
